How to help your child adapt in kindergarten

For children who are used to being close to their parents, the first visits to the kindergarten become stressful. During this period they need understanding and support from adults.

Behavior of children in the adaptation period
Each child is a personality, so the adaptation to kindergarten for each takes place in different ways. Many factors can affect its duration. A large role is played by the character and temperament of the child, the state of health, the atmosphere in the family, the personality of the caregiver, the level of preparation for the kindergarten and the readiness of the parents to send the baby to preschool.

Some children from the first days with pleasure begin to go to the group, others are hysterical, not wanting to part with their mother. In a team, kids can behave in isolation or be more active. Almost always in the period of adaptation to kindergarten, children’s behavior changes. Such changes are also observed outside the walls of the preschool institution. Affectionate cute children can begin to behave aggressively, become unruly and capricious. Children can cry a lot, eat poorly and fall asleep with difficulty. Many are beginning to hurt, some worsen speech. Do not be afraid – in most cases this is considered the norm. Children, torn from their habitual environment, do not realize what is happening to them and thus react to experiences and nervous shocks. As soon as the child gets used to kindergarten, his condition returns to normal.

The adaptation period can have a different duration – all individually. On average, it takes 1-2 months, but it can take half a year, and in some cases even more. It is much more difficult to get used to kindergarten for children who are often ill or have a garden.

Preparing for kindergarten
It is necessary to take care of preparing the baby for kindergarten. Children who have spent enough time with peers who have basic communication skills and know how to serve themselves will find it easier to get used to the new conditions. The better your child will develop such skills, the less likely to experience physical and emotional discomfort, being away from parents in an unfamiliar team.

Kindergarten visit
It is recommended to start visiting the kindergarten in the summer or from September, since this period accounts for a smaller percentage of the incidence rate. It is desirable that the addiction to the garden took place gradually. Before you begin to constantly attend pre-school, self-explore its territory. Then start to drive the baby on morning or evening walks, introduce him to the caregivers and children.

The mode of visiting the kindergarten at the time of adaptation for each child is planned and individually, based on its characteristics. It is better to bring the first week or two of the child to 9 am or for the morning walk, so he will not see the negative emotions and tears of children who part with their parents. It is good if at first he will spend no more than 1.5-2 hours in the kindergarten. Then the child can be left for lunch. And in a month, when he gets used to new people, it is worth trying to leave him for a nap, and later for dinner.

How to facilitate the adaptation
At the time of adaptation of the child in the kindergarten, try to reduce the load on his nervous system. Do not attend noisy events and limit your TV viewing. Give your child more attention, read books to him, go for walks, play quiet games. Try not to criticize and punish the child, give him love and warmth. To facilitate adaptation, you can use the recommendations:

Having taken the child to the kindergarten, do not make long goodbyes near the group, this can provoke a tantrum. It is better to tell the child that you need to go and that you will come after him after lunch or sleep.
Do not show your feelings, as your excitement will be transferred to the child.
If a child breaks up with his mother hard, try to have his father or grandmother take him to kindergarten.
To make the baby feel confident, you can give him your favorite book or toy.
Put the child in the kindergarten in comfortable things in which he will feel free and relaxed and who will be able to take off and put on himself.
At the weekend, keep the same mode as in kindergarten.
Do not fall for provocations and pay less attention to the whims of the child.
